Your New Cat: Are You Ready?

Getting a new cat or kitten is a great way to expand your pet family, but are you ready for your new arrival? Here are a few things to keep in mind in order to ensure that you’re fully prepared for your new feline family member.

Supplies and Services

First of all, you want to make sure that you have all the necessary supplies and services set up. You may already know the best vet services Spanish Fort AL or your area, and you may even have some supplies already, but you’ll want to get more. Your new cat will need their own litter box at the very least, but that’s just the beginning.

Setting Up

Cat-proofing your house means making sure that delicate trinkets and poisonous houseplants are well out of reach of any curious cats. Remember that some cats are impressive jumpers, and that’s important to keep in mind. It may be a good idea to start by setting up a room as your new cat’s “home base” with their own food dish, litter box, toys and plenty of vertical space (like a cat tree) for them to explore.

Preparing the Household

Last but not least, make sure that the household as a whole is ready for your new arrival. Your family should be ready to meet the new pet, and that includes your other pets. If you have a cat or a dog already, you want to have a plan for how to safely introduce them.

Now you’re ready for your new furry friend. Before you decide on what kind of cat to get, remember that there are thousands of rescued cats and kittens that need homes, and don’t forget to spay or neuter and keep your kitty indoors to help reduce feral populations and protect your pet as well as the local wildlife.
